Driving Lessons Gloucester- New Vehicle Advances.

A consultation process has been started by The Department For Transport, which will seek the views of motorists on automated and driverless cars being used on our roads.

Advanced driver-assisted and driverless cars are on their way, so rules will need to be changed to accommodate these new technologies.

Vehicles using advanced driver assistance to change lanes and park by remote control could be on sale within the next 4 years.

Automated and driverless vehicles should be making an appearance any time from the mid 2020's.

It is proposed that the Highway Code will be changed, together with the necessary regulations to support the safe use of remote control parking and motorway assist features.
Insurance law will also have to changed eventually so that motorists who have handed control to their self driving cars will be properly insured and protected.

None of these changes will be happening overnight, but serious thought will have to be given to the effects on a multitude of businesses that will be affected, including driver training.
What is likely to occur? It's really too early to say at present, but it is likely that different licence categories will have to be created, similar to the current automatic driving licence. Testing will still take place, in order to satisfy the authorities that candidates are aware of the components and safe use of, for example, driverless vehicles and their ability to cope if the technology should fail.
This will mean that driver training will adapt as the new technologies arrive, but it is not likely to mean the end of the driving test.

In the meantime, we will continue in our efforts to provide quality driving lessons with todays technologies, so please call us on 01452 614226 to get skilled up and pass that driving test.

As always, be careful out there!

Warm Regards, John Lowe.
