Driving Lessons Gloucester- Customer Review- Freya Savage of Gloucester.

"My driving lessons are going really well with John Lowe Driving and I get on very well with my driving instructor, Martyn Brewer. I've had about 10 lessons so far and seem to have covered an awful lot and I feel more confident each time. This is my first attempt at driving and I chose John Lowe Driving School because other students at Denmark Road sixth form said how good they are. Martyn has got me studying for my theory test already, there's a lot to cover, so I'm pleased I have started early. Having driving lessons helps a lot with the theory work, and it's going well."

Driving Lessons Gloucester- Learner Drivers may be Allowed on UK Motorways.

The Department of Transport have announced that learner drivers may be allowed to drive on UK motorways with the supervision of an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) in a dual controlled car. Motorways are statistically the safest of roads, but can cause a lot of anxiety for many drivers.
Some areas have busy dual carriageways that learner drivers have to deal with on their driving lessons, such as Gloucester, so learner drivers from these areas will be familiar with the higher speeds and safety requirements that will be needed on a motorway. However, go to Cheltenham and these roads are not really in range, so students from this area will be new to the different level of driving, and may find motorway and even dual carriageway driving quite daunting after they have passed their driving test.
If the new rules are introduced, and learner drivers are allowed onto the motorway, the driving instructors at John Lowe Driving will make sure that any student is fully prepared before the motorway practice.

Driving Lessons Gloucester- Winter Solstice- Driving at Night.

Today is the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year. The nights will be getting shorter from tomorrow, but if you are not used to driving in the darkness, or are just not confident in the dark, here are some tips that will help you.
Judgement of distance and speed becomes harder at night because of the reduced visibility and other unfamiliar distractions. You may not have done any night driving on your driving lessons, so at first, take it easy. If you can't stop within the range of your vision, then slow down.
Before you go out, make sure your lights work. You will have done these checks on your driving lessons and your driving instructor will have made sure that you know what to check. Check that your headlights, stop lights and windscreens are not dirty.
Turn on your dipped headlights in good time, before it gets really dark, and be sure you know how to use your main beam headlights should you need them. Again, you will have covered this on your driving lesson.
When you are out at night, stay calm, and read the road around you, as things that are familiar in the daylight, can be a surprise in the darkness. As always, keep things safe, and if you feel uncomfortable, pull over somewhere safe, keep your lights on, and relax for a moment until you feel ready to proceed.
Remember, your driving instructor at John Lowe Driving will always be available for any further advice.

Driving Lessons Gloucester- Christmas Charity 2015.

It is around this time of the year that John Lowe Driving chooses a charity, or good cause to support. This year we have decided on a new charity, based in Gloucester called The Beacon. The Beacon has been set up by Carrie Godwin, to help people in the local community who suffer with depression. Their aim is to provide a safe and relaxing place to visit, to learn about the biology of depression, introduce anti-stress techniques, mindfulness and effective coping strategies. They will also run sessions of arts, crafts, performing arts, and cookery, to name a few of their ideas.
They are hosting a meet and greet coffee morning on January 14th 2016, between 9am and 11am, at the Ramblers/Podsmead Community Centre, Milton Ave, Podsmead, Gloucester, GL25AS.
If you need to make contact before the coffee morning, here are the details:

Driving Lessons Gloucester- Taxi Driver Strike Threat.

Taxi drivers in Gloucester have been told they must retake their driving tests every 10 years – at their own expense. The tests are currently priced at £112. New rules imposed mean that the testing will be carried out by the DVSA.
Some drivers are apparently not achieving the standard, and are failing the test, and this has caused threats of strike action by some taxi drivers.
It's not unusual for professional drivers to be standard checked to ensure decent standards and public safety. LGV drivers, forklift drivers, ambulance drivers etc are checked regularly and driving instructors are checked at least every 4 years by the DVSA, sometimes more often.
If your driving or instruction is up to the required standard then there is nothing to fear, but if not, then there is every opportunity to reach the standard with further training. Surely professional pride would be the only motivation needed to reach the standard, and impress the public.
All hackney carriage and private hire drivers licensed to the authority to operate in the city must take tests by October next year.

Driving Lessons Gloucester- Should Elderly Drivers be Retested?

There have been some news articles lately, discussing whether to introduce retesting for drivers over the age of 70. This is a more complex subject than it first appears. At present, drivers over age 70 in the UK must fill in a self-assessment form every three years to renew their licences. The form doesn't include a medical or driving test. This system has worked reasonably well, but there are always going to be cases that make the news when an elderly driver becomes involved in a serious accident.
It is not really the age that is the problem, but driving ability. Far more accidents are caused by drivers aged under 25 than those aged over 70.
Any retesting would have to go through legislation, and with many lawmakers and their colleagues and families approaching the age where retesting would occur, probably makes the idea dead in the water. Who would vote for a system where they could deprive themselves of their driving licence? Turkeys voting for Christmas?

Driving Lessons Gloucester- Customer Review- Becky Greenwood of Gloucester.

"I'm so pleased that I changed to John Lowe Driving. I had been with two other driving schools which were awful. One of them was a big national company, which was so disorganised, there were times that nobody knew when my next lesson was, or which driving instructor I would get. I had several different instructors and they seemed to disappear, or leave and I was the last person to know. I packed up with them and went to a local female instructor, and she was just as bad. She would change my lesson at the last minute, expect me to drive her around while she ran errands and even had her dog in the car, jumping around. I was losing heart when a friend recommended John Lowe Driving. I phoned up and Lis was so helpful and assured me that I would always be treated with respect. My driving instructor is Tom Lowe and he is professional, friendly and punctual. My driving is improving fast each lesson and Tom has said that I should be ready for my driving test early next year. I'm so pleased!"
